Frequently Asked Questions

Are you currently accepting applications?

No. In our inaugural year, we are offering residencies by invitation only.

Will you have an application process?

Yes. We will have a call for applications for two spots in 2022. This call will go out November 2021. Because of COVID, we opted to reschedule invited residents and therefore pushed back our original application date. We apologize for the inconvenience and are looking forward to opening the property up.

What if I want to visit and tour the property?

We are not open to the public. We will, however, host gatherings and open houses. Sign up for our mailing list for these. If you are visiting from out of town and want to make a special request to visit, we will do our best to accommodate you. Email info@township10.com

What is the length of an artist residency?
An invited artist structures a residency for a period of 3 to 6 weeks. This is at their discretion and dependent on availability.

What is the cost of a residency?

There are no residency fees. Township10 offers accommodations and studio use free of charge. We are committed to lessening financial barriers to entry. Residents are responsible for their travel, meals, and materials/firings. A vehicle is required as the nearest store is 15 minutes by car.

How is the residency structured?

Township10 empowers artists to plan their own residency. They create a structure, invite guests, and utilize the entire compound. We require a project proposal and a list of guests/collaborators.

Who is on-site with residents?

The studio tech lives on the Township10 property year-round. He welcomes and orients residents/guests and provides basic support in the ceramics studio. The founder, Marjorie Dial, will not be at Township10 unless this is specifically arranged in advance. She is there in spirit.

How is artwork selected for the T10 collection?

In consultation with residents, we select a finished piece for donation to our collection. This work serves as a marker of the artists who participate in the residency and is part of the exchange. Artists may exclude 1-3 works from selection. These will not be sold and may appear in a catalogue and future exhibitions.

Who is eligible to apply?
Township10 is open to artists, writers, and art professionals with a dynamic vision for how to activate the property. Emerging as well as those who are established are invited to apply. Applicants who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs as of the date of application are ineligible for a residency and therefore cannot apply.

Is clay experience required for applicants?
No.

How much technical support will be available?
We have a part-time studio tech who welcomes and supports residents. He lives on-site in the bunkhouse. Technical support does not include instruction. We expect residents to be able to work independently and responsibly. Through prior arrangement, the studio tech may be hired to provide instruction.

How much access to the studio do artists have?
Residents have 24-hour studio access for the duration of their residency. They may need to adjust if a community event or property improvements coincide with their session.

Am I responsible for materials?
Yes. Materials typically include clay and glaze materials from Highwater Clay or Starworks. These are the exclusive responsibility of the resident to procure, track, and pay.

Will I need a car?
Yes, in fact, a car is required. Township10 is situated in a rural area. Residents are 15 minutes from the nearest grocery store. It is critical to have access to a personal vehicle to purchase food, materials and for research purposes—the surrounding region can be incredibly inspirational.

When will I be notified of the results of my application?

You will be notified by email approximately one month after the deadline.

How often are applications reviewed?
For now, applications are reviewed once a year beginning in November 2021.
